Good to hear you are going back to school! I used to live in Denton, from like 91 to 07. Not a bad little town. A food tip: try a little dive named Mr. Chopsticks on Scripture St. near UNT. Hi there Mason. Congrats on getting the sociology degree, although as an educator myself - you may want to think about other options. It's a brutally tough market out there for teachers and no guarantees that a teaching certificate will lead to a job - much less if a parent of a student googles your name - or finds out you fucked her husband. However, I don't think you were ever that passionate about being a teacher as you think you are. You definitely like to write - and you show serious talent in that regard - and you are a (media) whore, among other whores - but those two passions together and you get a person who writes for the media. Start your own magazine devoted to sluts like you. Write a column for the local gay rag. Write a screenplay about your life or create an online TV series. I tell many kids today - don't worry about getting a job related to your degree - 80% of graduates don't (except accountants and they are miserable). Find your passion and your interests and inner talents and exploit them. It will give you the energy to go far in life. You are one smart, talented kid. Go long, go deep, and touchdown!

Mason, if your interested there are Master of Education programs out there for people without an undergrad in education. It allows you to gain certification and a master's in about the same time as you would invest to get an undergrad in education. The benefit is that teachers with masters make more money, which can really add up in terms of pension and lifetime earnings. Also, a masters allows you to teach at the college level if you want to moonlight at a community college. Finally, the masters will also give you a leg up if you want to move into administration side of education.

You ask what one does with a sociology degree. I don't know, but being the creative man you are, I suspect it will be good. You seem to write well. I think you have a future writing studies, articles for New Yorker magazine or becoming part of a documentary team. You have camera experience already and know how to work it. The possibilities are endless.

Go study society? Last i hear there were some company's in Houston that were hiring people with their degree. Something about studying bla bla bla. Main point is your going to be studying a lot of charts and behavior things for these jobs. Also they were looking for interns. Or you could just do like most people do and go get a job at a community college.
